SMB Solutions Cloud Services is a partner with the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD). This means we receive regular notifications of important cybersecurity issues as well as regular communications on cybersecurity best practices.

With the increased visibility of cybersecurity issues and the increased activity impacting small and mid-sized businesses, the ASD has recently published a guide for small businesses to follow for cloud security.

Christmas time can be a period of high hacker activity; a lot of people go on holidays during this time and hackers think no one will notice any of their activity until it’s too late. With this is mind, we thought we should take the opportunity to share the recently published ASD information.

What are the ASD Small Business Cloud Security Guidelines?

The Small Business Cloud Security Guides are designed to help businesses secure their systems and data and are accessible to organisations with limited resources and cyber security expertise.

The ACSC’s Small Business Cloud Security Guides provide small businesses with advice on how to configure Microsoft 365 and Intune-managed endpoints securely. The guides are designed to help small businesses strengthen their cyber posture and resilience.

What can I expect to find in the ASD Small Business Cloud Security Guidelines?

On the webpage that lists the ASD Small Business Cloud Security Guidelines, you can expect to see the ACSC’s Essential Eight mitigation strategies and examples of how each can be implemented to secure Microsoft 365 capabilities. The technical examples are designed to offer significant protection against cyber incidents while remaining accessible to organisations with limited resources and cyber security expertise.

The technical examples include things such as multi-factor authentication, technical backups, patch applications, application control and more.
